Trunk alternatives, weighed honestly

Trunk is the best-liked app in this category and syncs stock across Shopify, Amazon, eBay, Etsy and more. Where a multichannel tool is the right answer.

Updated 26 September 2026

Trunk has the best public record in this category, and it is not close: 408 reviews at 4.9 as of 18 September 2026, with a share of reviews at three stars or below of 1.2% — the lowest of any app we measure, against a field that mostly runs between 5% and 14%. It has held that position across all three of our readings: 1.1% in July, 1.0% in August, 1.2% now.

So this page starts somewhere unusual for a competitor comparison: if Trunk covers the channels you sell on, you probably should not switch. The rest of it is about the specific case where its shape doesn’t match yours.

What Trunk is good at

  • Channel breadth. Amazon, eBay, Etsy, Faire, TikTok, Walmart, Square POS, BigCommerce, Squarespace, Wix, WooCommerce, Bandcamp, plus QuickBooks and Xero. If your stock sells in more places than Shopify, this is the category it was built for.
  • Bundling and kitting. A bundle’s components draw down correctly when the bundle sells — genuinely hard to get right, and most store-to-store apps don’t attempt it.
  • Duplicate-SKU syncing as a feature, not a failure mode: it will deliberately keep same-SKU listings in step.
  • A reliability record merchants wrote down. In a category whose failure mode is silent and expensive, a complaint share near 1% is the number that matters most.

Where the shape doesn’t fit

Trunk’s model is one pool of stock, many sales channels. Two Shopify stores is a different shape: two catalogues that may deliberately diverge, two sets of prices, and a question about which store owns the number. Tools built for that shape offer things a channel tool doesn’t need:

  • an explicit source store whose count is the truth, with destinations following one way — the hub-and-spoke model;
  • preview mode per connection, so you see what would be written into that specific store before anything is;
  • a matching report between two Shopify catalogues, listing what paired, what didn’t, and what was ambiguous.

The second consideration is price shape. Trunk starts at $35/month and rises with volume; where your setup is two Shopify stores and no marketplaces, that is breadth you are funding and not using.

Review counts and ≤3★ shares read from each listing's own rating breakdown on 18 September 2026; Trunk's prices re-checked on 25 September 2026, including the tiers published only on its own site. Entry price is the cheapest paid plan, or the free tier where one exists.

What the plan meters

Trunk prices by orders a month, and the ladder is steep: Essential is $35 up to 100 orders, $45 to 200, $59 to 400 and $89 to 800; Pro runs $39, $59, $79 and $119 across the same steps. Trunk’s own pricing page carries the ladder on: Essential $129, $179, $229 and $279 at 1,500, 3,000, 6,000 and 10,000 orders, Pro $169, $219, $279 and $329, and a conversation with sales past that (as of 25 September 2026). Fourteen-day trial.

Catalogue size does not enter into it, which is the kind thing about this pricing — a large, slow catalogue costs what a small one does. A busy shop is where it climbs, and it climbs on your best months. Against the per-product tier that is a genuine trade rather than a straight loss: 20,000 SKUs on a per-variant plan costs more than $89 almost everywhere. What each app in the category meters sets the two axes side by side.

What happens if you leave

Trunk’s own reviews are the best in the category and nothing in them describes a bad exit — which is weak evidence rather than a guarantee, and the same question is worth asking of every app here. Of the 2,603 reviews we read, nineteen mention disconnecting and ten of those are one-star; the incidents on record belong to other apps, including one that zeroed a merchant’s source store on the way out.

What makes the question answerable in advance is whether an app creates anything in the store it syncs to. An app that only moves quantities has nothing to clean up when it goes; an app that creates listings has to decide what happens to them, and that decision is where the one-star reviews come from. Ask it directly, and read what disconnecting actually does first.

Where StockUnison sits, with the caveat

StockUnison does not compete with Trunk on breadth and will not pretend to: Shopify only, stock counts only. No marketplaces, no bundling, no accounting integrations. What the narrowness buys is a tool shaped around two specific Shopify problems, and since September 2026 it covers both of them.

  • One store in charge. A nominated main store whose counts the others copy, one way, with preview mode on every connection, ambiguous SKUs refused rather than guessed, nothing ever created or deleted in a connected store, and a log of every write including the skips.
  • Everything shares one stock. Every product with the same SKU shows the same count, and selling one anywhere lowers all of them — the job Trunk does under “duplicate-SKU syncing”. This works within a single store, which is the case a store-to-store tool cannot serve at all: one mug listed as ten products, or the same item in three collections under three names. Nothing is written until you have seen exactly which products would change and by how much.

The honest read of the overlap: on that second job Trunk and StockUnison are doing the same thing, and Trunk does it across every marketplace it supports while StockUnison does it inside Shopify. If your duplicates span Etsy and Amazon, that is Trunk’s answer and not ours. Pricing starts at $19. The head-to-head comparison puts both in one table, and the same-SKU guide explains the problem itself without either app in the way.

The caveat, stated plainly: Trunk has 408 reviews and the best complaint record in the category. StockUnison launched in August 2026 with none. If you sell on marketplaces at all, this comparison isn’t close and Trunk is your answer. The case for StockUnison is narrow: your stores are all Shopify, they share one shelf, and you want a sync that refuses to guess and can prove what it did.

Listing figures and complaint shares read from each public App Store listing on 18 September 2026, calculated from the listing's own rating breakdown. Category-wide observations draw on a 16 July 2026 crawl of 2,603 public reviews; Shopify's mid-2026 review enforcement has since unpublished about 13% of that corpus, unevenly across apps. These numbers move — the listings are linked so you can check today's.

Common questions

What is the best Trunk alternative?

It depends whether your problem is channels or stores. For multichannel sync across Amazon, eBay, Etsy and Walmart, Sumtracker and QuickSync are the closest comparisons. For Shopify-store-to-Shopify-store sync specifically, Syncio, Multi-Store Sync Power, Tipo and StockUnison are the direct tier. Trunk is unusually well reviewed, so if it covers your channels the honest answer is often to keep it.

Why would I switch away from Trunk?

Rarely for quality — its public record is the strongest in the category. The usual reasons are shape and price: it is built around syncing one pool of stock across many sales channels, so if your actual setup is two Shopify stores with different catalogues and different pricing, you are paying for marketplace breadth you never use. Its entry plan also starts higher than most store-to-store tools.

Does Trunk sync between two Shopify stores?

Yes — Shopify is one of its supported channels and it can keep two Shopify stores in step. The question is whether that is the job you are buying it for. Store-to-store apps add things a channel-oriented tool generally does not: an explicit main store the others follow, preview mode per store, and matching built around two Shopify catalogues rather than a channel list.

What can I use instead of Trunk if all my duplicate listings are inside Shopify?

This is the case where the channel breadth you are paying for is entirely unused. Trunk's duplicate-SKU syncing keeps same-SKU listings in step across every channel it supports; if yours are all in Shopify — one item listed as several products, or the same item across your own Shopify stores — StockUnison does that job for Shopify only, from $19/month against Trunk's $35 entry plan. It shows you exactly which products would change before writing anything. If even one duplicate sits on Etsy, Amazon or eBay, Trunk remains the right answer.

How much does Trunk cost?

As of 25 September 2026 its plans start at $35/month (Essential) and $39 (Pro) and rise with orders, to $279 and $329 a month at 6,000–10,000 orders, on 14-day trials. That is above the entry point of most direct store-to-store apps — a fair trade if you use the channel breadth, a poor one if you don't.

One item. One number.

StockUnison keeps one count wherever an item sells — across your Shopify stores, or across duplicate products in one. Matched by SKU, previewed before anything moves, and logged write by write.
